Setup Stops and Program Is Unexpectedly Uninstalled.
SYMPTOMS
When installing Age of Empires II: Age of Kings, the installer stops and the following message appears:
Initializing Uninstaller
Age of Empires II is uninstalled.
Age of Empires II Setup was not completed successfully.
Click the Install button on the Setup menu to try again.
You are unable to install Age of Empires II.
CAUSE
This can occur if the following statements are true:
1) Your disk drive is configured to use DMA (Direct Memory Access).
2) Your Windows Temporary folder is corrupt or damaged.
RESOLUTION
This problem can be resolved, by the following methods, please choose the one which is appropriate to you.
NOTE: You may be running a version of windows that differs to the default one. If this is the case, then refer to your system documentation, or contact your system manufacturer.
Turn Off DMA for your Disk Drive.
1. Go to your Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click System.
3. In the System Properties, on the Device Manager tab, click View devices by type.
4. Expand CDROM, and then under CDROM, double-click the CD-ROM drive that is being used.
5. In the Model CD-ROM Properties box, on the Settings tab, click to clear the DMA check box, and then click OK.
6. Now click close and restart your computer.
Delete your Windows Temp Folder.
Choose one of the following operating systems which is relevant to you.
Microsoft Windows 95
1. Click Shut Down.
2. Click Restart in MS-DOS mode.
3. At the command prompt, type the following, pressing ENTER after you type each line:
Deltree C:\Windows\Temp
Y
Exit
4. Restart Windows without loading any programs from the Startup folder and then re-install the game.
Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
Use the Disk Cleanup tool to remove your windows temporary folder. This can be done by the following method:
1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
2. In the box labeled Drives, select the hard drive you have your copy of Windows installed and press OK.
3. Under Files to delete, click to select the Temporary files check box, and then click OK.
4. Click Yes.
5. When the Disk Cleanup tool is finished, restart the computer, and then re-install the game.
NOTE: If the issue continues to occur, restart the computer without loading any programs from the Startup folder or any terminate and stay resident (TSR) programs, and then install the game.
